Workers’ claims reduce

The decline in claim frequency for workers’ compensation injuries continued in 2007, but the scale is much smaller than

in the previous two years, said NCCI Holdings, a specialist in workers’ compensation. The claims frequency dropped by 2.5% last year, a more modest improvement than the 7% drop in the two previous years, said the annual study by NCCI.

RSA settles asbestos suit

RSA has settled a legal dispute with US car manufacturer General Motors following a four-year battle over asbestos claims. The insurer said the undisclosed settlement would have no effect on its earnings.

Kwik-Fit offshoot grows

The Green Insurance Company, a Kwik-Fit Insurance subsidiary, has grown rapidly in its first

year of trading. The Uddingston-based intermediary, which was launched last August, now has more than 12,000 motor insurance customers on its books.

Ace extends Irish D&O cover

Ace Europe has announced an extension to one of its directors’ and officers’ (D&O) policies as a result of increased exposures faced by Irish companies, their directors and senior managers. The Irish firms face new regulations under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.

Amlin buys fleet renewals

Amlin has acquired the renewal rights to HCC Underwriting Agency's fleet business. Amlin’s Syndicate 2001 has acquired for cash the renewal rights to approximately £20m of general commercial motor fleet insurance. The sale price was not disclosed.

The business will be integrated into Amlin Insurance Services, the UK commercial division of the Amlin Group.

Ball joins Arista schemes

Commercial lines underwriting operation Arista Insurance has appointed Andrew Ball schemes manager, as the company boosts the number of schemes it underwrites. Ball was previously commercial schemes trading manager at Norwich Union. He will report to head of schemes Simon Henderson.
