The firm’s new hire has nearly 30 years of industry experience

Independent broker and risk management firm TL Dallas has appointed Tim Mortimer as its new commercial managing director.

Tasked with growing the broker’s commercial division, Mortimer will lead a 70-strong team based across TL Dallas’s 10 UK offices. The division offers commercial, trade credit and private client insurances, as well as independent financial services.

Mortimer, who has nearly 30 years of industry experience, joins from UK broker Marsh Commercial – here, he was responsible for a team of 150 staff across 11 offices in his role as northern regional director.

Mortimer’s credentials include an MBA and degree in economics, as well as being an associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

“Tim joined the business in early March and was soon faced with the unprecedented situation of a UK wide lockdown, with the whole group working from home. Whilst this has presented unique challenges in terms of getting to know his teams via video conferencing, he has successfully embraced the challenge.

“Tim has proved to be a huge asset in the last few months, supporting our commercial staff through some challenging times, as well as focusing on developing strategic plans for the next stage of business growth, whilst mitigating against the impact of Covid-19.

“Having worked for both independent brokers and larger corporate businesses, he is a welcome addition to our senior management team. Under Tim’s leadership, and with his in-depth experience and knowledge of the UK insurance market, we plan to significantly grow our commercial division.

“His management skills, relationships in the industry and strong business acumen, alongside his operational and compliance expertise, will significantly enhance our business.”

TL Dallas has 10 offices and 120 staff across the UK in Scotland, Northern Ireland, London, Yorkshire, Stockport and Surrey, covering both commercial and personal lines. The company’s clients include sole traders, public sector organisations, listed companies and charities.
