The initiative will welcome financial services professionals for the first time

The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has opened applications for its 2025 New Generation Programme.

The initiative, now in its 16th year, aims to develop 50 emerging professionals. This year, in addition to insurance, it will include members from the financial services sector following backing from former CII president Ian Callaghan.

The programme sees four cohorts of 10 individuals participate in a group project over 12 months to tackle issues affecting the insurance or financial services sectors.

Past projects have included the Traumatic and Distressing Claims report and the Insurance Influencer campaign.

Participants will also engage in workshops with representatives from the FCA and roundtable discussions with MPs.

CII president Nicola Stacey said: “With mentorship and collaborative opportunity at its core, the programme is designed to empower individuals with bold ideas to develop their leadership skills and contribute meaningfully to the future of the sector.”

Encouraging expansion

Personal Finance Society president Carla Brown said she was “absolutely delighted” to see the programme open to the wider profession.

She continued: “Those who form our 2025 cohort can expect an exceptional opportunity to innovate and make a real difference for their peers and the wider profession.”

To apply, candidates must hold either the Diploma in Insurance (Dip CII) or Certificate in Financial Planning (Cert PFS) and have five to 10 years of industry experience. Applicants are also expected to demonstrate clear professional development.

The CII actively encourages applications from underrepresented groups. Applications close on 18 August 2025.
