Former Ageas claims and transformation director becomes NED of salvage company, e2e

Rob Smale, former claims director and transformation director at Ageas, has joined the board of e2e Total Loss Vehicle Management (e2e) as a non-executive director.

After more than 30 years in the field of insurance claims, Smale said he wants to “transform the way insurers are working with their salvage partners,” as it is “often the second largest revenue stream for motor insurers after premium income.”

Smale will sit on the executive board, where part of his remit will be focusing on the business’ value proposition for its clients, ensuring e2e is ideally placed to meet clients’ requirements and technology ambitions.

Smale said: “I am excited to be joining the group at this pivotal time. Vehicle salvage is often the second largest revenue stream for motor insurers after premium income and there is a huge opportunity to innovate and transform the way insurers are working with their salvage partners.

“Strong salvage values, total loss process efficiency, transparency, compliance rigor, environmental care and performance consistency are all key. I also see reclaimed parts becoming an integral tool for insurers to address rising repair costs which are a major factor in motor claims inflation.

“Insurer requirements are evolving, it’s time to expect more and e2e is ready and able to deliver.”

Neil Joslin, chief operating officer at e2e said: “Rob’s reputation for innovation, transformative thinking and leadership in both the insurance and body repair shop markets is fantastic. I am absolutely delighted that he has joined the team and I am looking forward to working closely with him to bring our business goals to fruition.

“We are looking to add serious value to insurers who choose e2e as their salvage partner and Rob brings experience and insight that will help us to materialise that value rapidly.”

The start of a trend?

Smale is not the first insurance veteran to join e2e’s board. Martyn Holman, formerly commercial director at Markerstudy is the group’s non-exec Chairperson. He said that he and Smale go way back, and he looks forward to working with him again.

He said: “I know Rob well and I’m really looking forward to joining forces and building momentum for e2e in the market. It’s a great time for Rob to come on board as we look to continue the good work we have started, positioning e2e as the salvage and recycling partner of choice.”
