Employees will also have access to free meals in the company’s Bexhill and Leicester offices

Hastings Direct announced last week (30 September 2022) that it would be rolling out a package of support for its employees in October that includes a 5% pay rise and £500 bonus to help its staff through the cost-of-living crisis.

The support package equates to an average of approximately £1k for each staff member between now and March 2023.

Pay reviews will be also brought forward for those employees earning above £45k – directors and the executive team have not been included.

Toby van der Meer, Hastings Direct’s chief executive, said: “The rise in the cost of living is affecting everyone and the recently proposed tax reforms have created even more uncertainty.

“We applaud other organisations that have taken similar measures and would encourage remaining companies to do the same.”

Four Cs

Hastings Direct’s support for staff has been extended to those on extended absences – such as maternity or sick leave – and staff who have joined in the past few weeks.

Van der Meer added: “In line with our four Cs cultural approach, our colleagues are our priority and therefore we’re pleased to announce these measures.”

Hastings Direct four C’s include a focus on colleagues, customers, company and community.

Throughout October colleagues will also be able to take advantage of free meals in the company’s Bexhill and Leicester offices and those in need will have access to a £200k hardship fund.

This fund has been created to support staff experiencing the most acute financial difficulties with confidential and financial help.
