Nicola Garcia, head of recoveries at DWF Law LLP, explains her firm’s entry to the Business Partner of the Year – strategic and professional services category

1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the category?

Recoveries is a significant area of focus for our insurance clients. DWF’s strategic intent was to enable our clients to make “better decisions quicker” in the recovery arena.

We leveraged our market share of data to understand/inform how other insurers look to recover, as well as use our relationships to create a Friendly Escalation Process (FEP), where we would have dedicated points of contact to discuss and aim to settle recovery cases without the need for litigation.

DWF’s success, the benefits felt by clients with considerably less litigation, quicker settlements, less operational friction and leveraging data to identify successful strategies benefits our clients through considerable claims savings.

2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?

DWF’s recoveries team has delivered a transformative and client-centric operational model reshaping how recovery work is handled.

Driven by innovative thinking, commercial awareness, as well as a deep understanding of client and insurer behaviour, DWF created two leading industry solutions – notably our client FEP and third party insurer capture profiling (TPCP), a data solution analysing raw claims data.

These have significantly improved pre-litigation settlement rates, accelerated case lifecycles, reduced costs and strengthened long-term commercial relationships, delivering major client benefits.

Results include 60% of recovery cases settled pre-litigation and £2.8m saved.

3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

Winning this award would mean recognition for the fact that DWF have innovated legal services beyond the traditional law firm.

DWF aims to do things differently to achieve best in class results. Our TPCP, which provides know your opponent information on third party behaviours, provides huge insight to the team in how to strategise to make the most effective recoveries.

DWF’s objective is to be a disruptor for good. DWF wants to push boundaries and innovate legal service to the benefit of our insurance clients and we want to be the catalyst for collaboration between insurance clients in the recovery arena.
