Jason Selby, chief technology officer at Ageas, explains his firm’s entry to the Excellence in Technology – Insurer category
1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the category?

We’re focused on using our technology, data and artificial intelligence (AI) expertise to create even better experiences for our brokers, partners, customers and colleagues.
This award recognises organisations using technology to deliver real-world impact and we felt our total loss digital app was a strong example of just that.
The app brings together advanced analytics, machine learning and user-centred design to help colleagues make faster, more informed decisions and support customers more effectively at an important moment in their claims journey.
More broadly, it reflects our ambition to embed technology across the business in ways that provide better customer outcomes.
2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?
The total loss digital app doesn’t simply digitise a process.
It provides real-time insight that helps us identify claims requiring attention sooner, prioritise resources more effectively and support faster, more informed decision-making.
The impact has been felt both operationally and for customers, helping us improve efficiency, accelerate settlements and deliver a smoother claims experience at what can often be a stressful time.
Just as importantly, the app has demonstrated what’s possible when technology teams work closely with operational experts.
The success of the approach has led to similar solutions being adopted in other areas of the business, with further innovations in development across the claims journey.
For us, that’s what innovation should look like – not technology for technology’s sake, but practical solutions that solve real problems, improve customer outcomes and create the foundations for future progress.
3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?
Winning would be fantastic recognition for the teams who have brought this solution to life, combining expertise from technology, data science, claims and operations.
One of Ageas’s real strengths is the depth of technical expertise we have across the business.
Our engineers, architects, data scientists and technology specialists are continually looking at how emerging technologies can be applied in practical ways to improve outcomes for customers and colleagues.
To receive this award would be a fitting recognition of the expertise, creativity and collaboration of the people behind this solution – and the difference they continue to make for our customers and colleagues every day.
