Phil Barton, group chief executive at Partners&, explains his firm’s entry to the Customer Champion of the Year – Broker category
1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the category?
We were built by design to challenge market practice and be the customer champion. Every decision we take is tested against the question, “would this benefit the client”.

Whilst many brokers focus on insurance placement, we invest in exceptional risk discovery skills and a technical claims capability to recover clients when a major risk crystallises.
Our mission is to build resilience into a client’s business, assisting them to navigate a complex and changing landscape to deliver their plan, in partnership with our specialist eco-system.
This is our purpose and it is as strong today as when we launched in 2020.
2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?
Our submission explains how we enhance our clients’ experience as their customer champion, outlining our goals and laying out clear metrics to support our approach.
Our proposition supports clients from cradle to grave and we track progress via Pace health checks and the Consumer Duty client journey analysis.
So far, we have achieved a strong net promoter score +64, against our +70 goal – proof of our progress and client appreciation for our approach – and impressive retention of almost 99% when the client journey is fully applied.
3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?
We set out to challenge our market – to move from a transactional approach to one that is focused on the holistic needs of clients, clearly putting clients ahead of shareholders.
Winning this award will endorse our thesis that a broker can be successful and client centric.
We know insurance can be a force for good, supporting business owners, employees and families to prosper.
At a time when there are more risks facing businesses than ever, winning this award reinforces our conviction that applying the power of insurance with skill makes the difference and supports the UK economy.
