’With brokers and insurers having recognised the need for specialist sports and leisure teams, we saw an opportunity to offer the same depth of sector segmentation on the claims side,’ says sports and leisure lead

Global claims services provider McLarens has launched a sports and leisure offering in the UK and Ireland to build on its existing entertainment and contingency team, Insurance Times can reveal.

The proposition will offer full commercial claims coverage for organisations operating across the sector – from grassroots facilities to top-flight venues – spanning ball sports, motor racing, athletic clubs, leisure centres, spas and gyms, outdoor pursuits, water sports, equestrian and contact sports.

It will be led by Russell Norris, executive adjuster and sports and leisure lead.

The team’s expertise covers playing surface damage, event cancellation and contingency losses, injury and liability exposures, theft and damage of specialist equipment, weather and flood-related losses and business interruption.

The loss adjusting firm said that move reflects its continued expansion of a sector-specific approach to technical claims handling.

Diverse risks

Bringing together capability from across McLarens’ UK and Ireland network, the offering is supported by a wider network of specialists including medical doctors, surveyors, cyber and technology experts, forensic accountants, scientists and mechanical and electrical engineers.

Commenting on the launch, Norris said: ”At the highest levels, modern sport is a major commercial enterprise and the risks facing organisations have become equally diverse.

”A single incident can trigger property damage, liability exposures, event disruption and business interruption simultaneously, requiring specialist expertise that extends well beyond traditional loss adjusting.

”With brokers and insurers having recognised the need for specialist sports and leisure teams, we saw an opportunity to offer the same depth of sector segmentation on the claims side – a team of technical experts with a deep understanding of the nuances and challenges specific to this sector.”
