The search for a new UK chief executive at Swiss Re has begun

Swiss Re has announced its chief executive of the UK and Ireland (UKI), Frank O’Neill has decided to leave to pursue other opportunities.

The announcement will be effective as of tomorrow and the search to find O’Neill’s successor has already begun.

The firm’s head of life and health UKI, Peter Elliot, has been appointed ad-interim chief executive effective immediately.

Russell Higginbotham, chief executive of reinsurance Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at Swiss Re, said: “I would like to thank Frank for his tremendous commitment and contribution to Swiss Re over the last 20 years. We wish him every success in his future endeavours.”

O’Neill first joined the firm in 1998 and has worked in various senior roles across Swiss Re markets including the regional head for South East Asia, senior underwriter, head of Africa and the Middle East and managing director.

He has been chief executive of Swiss Re UKI since 2016 - one the firms largest business units.

Prior to this he worked at Liberty Group as an underwriter.

Swiss Re Group is a wholesale provider of reinsurance and other forms of risk transfer-based insurance.

The firm announced last month that Higginbotham will be appointed as chief executive in reinsurance EMEA, regional reinsurance president EMEA and member of the group executive committee.
