The initiative aims to make bloodstock mortality and theft cover more accessible for horse owners and trainers across the UK, embedding protection directly into Equine MediRecord’s subscription-based compliance software.
Equine MediRecord is the UK’s only regulator-approved digital medicines register, simplifying adherence to animal welfare and anti-doping regulations.
The platform is used by equine regulators and top horse organisations internationally, including in Ireland, France, the US and Saudi Arabia.
The partnership
Under the partnership, Markel will use Willis’ own low-code technology platform to distribute the product embedded within the Equine MediRecord platform.

The system is supported by Kayna’s data orchestration tools, which enable tailored, data-led cover to be delivered to Equine MediRecord’s UK client base.
Anthony Borgman, head of GB affinity at Willis, said: “We are delighted to launch the first fully embedded bloodstock proposition, making insurance easy to access and quick to arrange. Our partnership with Equine MediRecord and Markel has enabled us to establish such an innovative solution for bloodstock clients.
“Today’s announcement demonstrates how insurance is quickly becoming a strategic proposition for vertical SaaS platforms. Embedding insurance serves to offer customers improved and more convenient experiences, which in turn can enhance customer loyalty with the brands they trust.”
