Policy holders are urged to continue using their existing policy number

Wholesale broker Orbit Underwriting has apologised to customers for “continuous unavailablity” of its system since last Friday.

The Solihull-based agency, which is provided capacity by XL Catlin among others, published a notice on its website stating this and urged customers to take action.

Brokers have contacted Insurance Times reporting an inability to access policies through the Orbit platform, but the policies are understood to remain active.

A notice on the Orbit website read: “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by the continued unavailability of our system.”

It urged existing taxi, fleet and courier policy holders with XL Catlin to contact Lawshield UK.

And it advised that any existing taxi policy holders should contact Mulsanne Insurance directly.

Mulsanne chief executive Darren McCauley said: “We are aware of the issues faced by Orbit. We want to clarify that Mulsanne Insurance customers will not notice any difference to their policy or service. We are handling any enquiries directly.”

Orbit stated that both companies should be able to deal directly with policy holders, urging customers to speak to the insurance intermediary who arranged the cover.

It said that policy holders should continue to use the existing number published in their ”policy wording” to report any claims.

It is unknown how long the system has been unavailable for, but Orbit Underwriting has been contacted for comment on the matter.

Orbit Underwriting specialises in commercial motor insurance. It provides bespoke and specialist solutions to UK insurance brokers.

It’s underwriters, XL Catlin UK, declined to comment.
