An inquisitive squirrel had a lucky escape when it went looking for nuts at Heswell Football Club on Merseyside.
It got trapped in one of the hollow poles protecting the wiring feeding into the club and began gnawing away at the wires, causing the BT Redcare alarm line not to respond.
An engineer was duly dispatched to the club to investigate the cause of the fault and he was surprised to encounter the squirrel making a dash for it when he opened the pole.
