Open GI has sealed a four-year deal to provide Footman James with a new IT platform.

The contract incorporates the software house's newly launched browser-based interface – Open-i and Microsoft Word integrated document creation software. The platform will support 150 users within Footman James, which was acquired by Aon yesterday for an undisclosed amount.

Paul Matthews, managing director Footman James, said: “With over 2,500 quote requests coming into the business every day and a customer base of over 140,000 policy holders it's vital that we have an IT system that can handle volume. It allows us to concentrate on service.

“We chose Open GI because of the projects they have delivered with large brokers like Carole Nash and Towergate and also their ability to open up the system via the web. The Internet plays a big part in our future strategy. Out of all of the software houses, Open GI offers the most comprehensive technology package and has the infrastructure to drive future development.”

Simon Hughes, Open GI sales and marketing director, said: “Footman James is one of an increasing number of brokers attracted to Open GI's ability to deliver complex bespoke developments, particularly in the area of e-commerce.

"IT systems are no longer viewed as a peripheral requirement for brokers, but a method of reducing costs and opening up new distribution channels. With a premium income of £40m, and a well defined business strategy, we are expecting Footman James to grow and add further users to the Open GI platform.”
