Stuart Pender has resigned as chairman of Towergate-owned Paymentshield.

Pender is stepping down in order to take the role of chief executive at letting agents consolidator Lomond Capital.

He joined Paymentshield in 2004 as chief executive and oversaw a ten-fold growth in the mortgage insurance business between then and 2009.

He became chairman in 2009 following Paymentshield’s acquisition by Towergate.

Pender said “I have thoroughly enjoyed the last seven years at Paymentshield. I now want to progress new opportunities and the recent changes in the Towergate structure provides me with the opportunity to stand down, safe in the knowledge that a strong team exists to drive forward the next level of development in Paymentshield.”

Paymentshield chief executive Tim Johnson said: “We would like to thank Stuart for his significant contribution to the business over recent years and wish him all the very best in his new role.”
