Public confidence in claims companies is wavering, according to personal liability solicitors BerrymanShacklock.

Recent court rulings have raised doubts over claims companies' ability to recover adequate compensation for consumers. With the advent of more consumer-friendly funding arrangements only a few claims companies are expected to survive.

Claims expert Ian Cranfield said: "I question how long these claims management companies can exist if they continue to operate in a way which is disadvantageous to consumers."

In light of the intense media interest surrounding the role of claims companies in personal injury, the Nottingham-based firm has predicted a growing role for solicitors. Cranefield added: "It is likely firms who undertake a great deal of personal injury work will begin to band together."
