Direct Line staff in Glasgow face job cuts

Royal Bank of Scotland is set to axe more than 600 jobs at Direct Line, the BBC reports.

The cuts will affect staff at the Atlantic Quay offices in Glasgow, which is set to close within three years, although further jobs will be created in the area.

RBS is said to be axing 14 of its 27 insurance offices. In total, two offices will be shut in Glasgow along with two in Birmingham, two in Croydon and two in Bristol. Sites in Farnham, Ipswich, Manchester, Peterborough, Romford and Cardiff, will also be shut down over a three-year timescale.

It follows hot on the heels of plans announced by RBS in May to cut 2000 insurance jobs.

RBS Insurance, which includes brands Direct Line and Churchil, was put up for sale last year after the bank was ordered by the European Commission to dispose of the business by 2013.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
