Telephone systems as good as ‘astrology’ academics claim

Francisco Lacerda, a professor of linguistics at Stockholm University, and Anders Eriksson, professor of phonetics at Gothenburg University, have said lie detector equipment used by telephone insurers does not work, the Guardian reports.

The technology, claimed by Highway to have cut £11m in potential fraud, is no more reliable than flipping a coin and is "at the astrology end of the validity spectrum".
