Fine carpet and textile restorers Behar Profex claims to have saved insurers and their policyholders more than £250,000 this year by salvaging items thought to have been total losses.

Among the items the restoration experts have reclaimed was an Aubusson carpet, insured for £45,000. The carpet was judged irreparable and valued at just £3,500 after it suffered staining, discoloration and rips and tears as a result of severe water damage.

However, Islington-based Behar Profex was able to restore the expensive carpet to its full insured value following treatments costing £5,700.

Behar Profex holds a royal warrant from the Queen Mother for restoring her antique carpets and tapestries.
