Birmingham, Glasgow and Manchester sites become ‘trading centres’

RSA is closing its mid-market commercial operational hub in Horsham, putting 38 jobs at risk.

No broker-facing jobs are under threat: the roles are back-office and administration related, an RSA spokesman told Insurance Times.

The decision closely follows rival Aviva’s decision to close 13 regional offices, putting 80 broker-facing jobs at risk.

The operational functions performed in Horsham will transfer to the company’s Manchester site.

The move reduces the number of mid-market commercial operations hubs from four to to three, based in Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow.

These three sites will be rebranded as ‘trading centres’.

While the mid-maket commercial operational function is closing, RSA retains a large presence in Horsham. The insurer employs around 850 people in the West Sussex town.

RSA said in a statement: “Over the past year we have been reshaping our commercial business, simplifying our structure and moving to a regional trading approach that brings the best of RSA to our brokers.

“Today we have announced some changes to our UK regional business structure.  We are establishing three trading centres in Birmingham, Glasgow and Manchester. Consolidating our operations teams into these three sites, where we have centres of excellence for mid-market customers and brokers, will help improve the service we offer.

“The trading centres will support regional trading sites in Leicester, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Horsham, Redhill, City and Ipswich.”

The RSA spokesman said the company would “look for redeployment opportunities wherever possible” for the affected staff.

The staff whose jobs are at risk will go through a consultation process over the next month.
