Broking group Swinton has hired former Arthur J Gallagher executive Tony Monnington as its new head of commercial.

Monnington was previously managing director of Gallagher’s Birmingham office. He recently worked on the integration of various Gallagher companies, including Oval.

In his new role at Swinton, Monnington will report to distribution director Richard Beaven and be based at the broker’s Burton Upon Trent commercial office.

He will lead Swinton’s commercial business, which has 200 staff and distributes insurance products through a national contact centre and a regional network of 17 offices.

Beaven said: “[Monnington] has a wealth of knowledge of the commercial broker sector, which remains a key market for us and his focus will be on delivering growth. He also brings with him recent, first-hand experience of delivering transformational change.”

Monnington added: “Swinton has a unique business model in the insurance market and is ideally placed to realise the potential that exists within its network to drive its commercial arm forward and develop new customer relationships.

“I am really looking forward to working with Richard and the rest of the team as we focus on delivering enhanced products and services for our customers.”
