Management: Carl Beardmore finally filled the chief executive vacancy in September, a post that had been open for two years.

In July the former non-executive director secured agreement from the firm’s only external shareholder, AHJ Holdings, that will see BMS buying back shares to become wholly employee-owned in two years.

BMS reported 28% growth in EBITDA to £7.1m in 2010, up from £5.5m in 2009, and turnover up 7% to £50.2m.

Expertise: The reinsurance broker launched an MGA – Pioneer Underwriting – in April.
