New independent non-executive director joins Towergate

Towergate has appointed James Strachan as an independent non-executive director and chairman of the group risk and compliance committee.

Strachan is currently a non-executive director of the Financial Services Authority, JPMorgan Asian Investment plc, Welsh Water Limited, Sarasin and Partners LLP, and Social Finance Limited.

He has previously been chairman of the Audit Commission, a member of the Court of Directors of the Bank of England, and non-executive director of Legal and General.

Towergate non-executive chairman Alastair Lyons said: “I am delighted to welcome James to the Towergate board. 

“He brings with him a rare blend of first class risk management credentials and strong commercial acumen which will be invaluable to the group as we progress our plans for sustained profitable growth.”

Strachan, whose appointment is subject to FSA approval, said: “Towergate is an innovative business with an impressive track record.

“I am looking forward to working with the board and management team as the group takes advantage of its leading position in UK insurance broking to implement its strategy.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
