McCafferty named Paymentshield’s commercial director

Brendan McCafferty

Broking group Towergate has poached Wills UK president Brendan McCafferty for the position of commercial director of its Paymentshield division.

He will join Towergate on 17 June. The move will end McCafferty’s five-year tenure at Willis.

In his new role, McCafferty will report to Paymentshield chief executive Tim Johnson. He will manage Paymentshield’s strategic development, including the ongoing implementation of the group change programme.

Paymentshield sells mortgage protection insurance and other products through mortgage advisers.

Johnson said: “Brendan is a well known and highly regarded individual within the insurance market and his commitment to both Towergate and to Paymentshield is further endorsement of our credible group strategy and unique business model.

“Paymentshield controls almost a quarter of the market in which it operates and continues to be a dominant force in the mortgage industry. Brendan is the ideal candidate to look at how we might enhance the brand and product offering and to asses the broader opportunities for the business in relation to the wider Towergate Group moving forwards.”

McCafferty added: “Paymentshield is a leading brand with an impressive track record of growth. It represents a unique challenge as a division of the Towergate business, sitting outside of the general insurance market. I feel certain that I will be able to make a valuable strategic contribution to the development and enhancement of the business. I look forward to working with Tim and his team within a business that I have always admired.”

Before joining Willis, McCafferty was finance director in RSA’s commercial division.
