The Treasury has put a draft timetable for the Financial Service Authority's (FSA) regulation of the insurance industry on its website, following its meeting with industry powerbrokers on 23 January.
The timetable promises that a short guide for intermediaries will be published in March, explaining the FSA consultation process.
It says draft legislation will be published and consultation will start in July, with legislation expected to be in parliament by October.
The final rules will be published by the end of 2003 and the legislation will become effective in the second quarter of 2004.
The Treasury prefaces the timetable by saying it is based on "current planning assumptions".
"Given the length of the implementation period and the range of consultative stages involved, it is possible that the timetable will need to be adjusted in due course," it says.
