United Insurance Brokers (UIB) has appointed ex-BP manager Lachlan Munn as divisional director of Engineering Risk Consultants (ERC).

Munn, who brings 31 years’ experience from the petrochemical industry, is an engineer and international oil refinery specialist. He will oversee insurance risk surveys of clients’ facilities and provide engineering technical support to account executives and claims departments.

He has also been tasked with improving the broker’s existing survey capabilities, and with developing a broader range of services with the help of UIB Nordic risk engineering practice leader Fredrik Ösund in Stockholm.

Prior to UIB, Munn worked for Petroplus, overseeing its Coryton oil refinery. Before that he was responsible for the training and competency assurance of all 550 Petroplus employees.

He held various positions with BP and Exxon Mobil including oil trading financial operations manager, refinery process engineering manager, global refining technology strategy analyst, refinery operations asset leader, refinery production planner, and refinery process engineer.

UIB chief executive Philip Tuite Dalton said ERC was something UIB was very keen to develop. “We look forward to the enhancement and expansion of the ERC’s services under his leadership,” he said.
