Environment Agency issues 86 flood warnings

Flooded road

The UK suffered a series of floods yesterday as the country was hit by hurricane-force 86mph winds.

The worst flooding was in the South West, as village halls were turned into refuge centres. Police told motorists not to drive in Bristol and Bath.

Many roads were blocked off and the AA and RAC were called to hundreds of cars stuck in floodwaters. Up to a month’s rain, 6cm, lashed down in some places.
