153 cars stopped results in seven uninsured drivers fined

Police seized seven uninsured vehicles in Wyre, fining drivers £200 and adding six points to their licences, reports the Blackpool Gazette.

The police action, codenamed Operation Neon, saw 153 vehicles stop checked. PC Andrew Halliwell from Poulton Road Policing Unit said: "I am pleased with the results of the exercise.

"I want the message to be quite clear to those either using the roads illegally or intent on committing crime - if you travel into the Wyre area, you will be stopped by the police and dealt with robustly. This type of exercise will continue, so you have been warned."

A further12 vehicles were taken off the road and served with prohibition notices by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) for being unfit to drive.

Six more were given delayed prohibition notices, which force the owners to correct the fault immediately or also face being banned from use.

Another seven drivers were also forced to repay £2,377 in unpaid fines by bailifs, predominantly escalated parking fines, after being caught out during the exercise.

Police issued 12 vehicle defect notices and numerous fines and penalty points for less serious offences.
