Danny Walkinshaw looks at the latest insurance stories online

Insurancetimes.co.uk went photo crazy at the Biba conference with users flocking to the site in record numbers to witness the action.

Photos included the opening reception where brokers and insurers mingled at stands, most noticeably those with bars or free booze. Photos of the second day were slightly more somber but the mood of the event was captured with many delegates choosing to hit the pool table or get in the driving seat of a video game.

I can reveal that the top three most viewed photos were from the top: 1. Girls in bikinis on the Insurecom stand, 2. QBE’s traditional ice-cream parlour and 3. The Bluefin stand featuring its chief executive Stuart Reid.

Also in the top five was a story detailing the appearance of US environmental campaigner Erin Brockovich, whose speech closed the conference and struck a chord with online readers.

Elsewhere, the shock departure of ABI director Stephen Haddrill, who is to take up the role of chief executive at the Financial Reporting Council in November, would have come as a surprise when the news landed in the inbox of insurancetimes.co.uk subscribers.

John Kitson’s blog, which has seen hijackers including Janice Deakin and Phil Bayles, shot back into the top five as Norwich Union closes in on its name change to Aviva.

And if you have tales of weird and wonderful claims, we want them for a new section on the site. Also, keep an eye out for coverage of Insurance Times’ latest claims clinic.
