Danny Walkinshaw looks at the latest insurance stories online

It’s been another cracking week of action on the site, as the big stories continue to be broken online. After the buzz caused by our recent story revealing that Towergate was closing BNIB, online subscribers thought Christmas had come early after another major exclusive landed in their inbox.

Marsh’s discussions regarding a takeover of HSBC’s insurance broker arm – detailed in the story ‘Marsh eyes HSBC Insurance Brokers’ – was the outstanding leader in the top five most popular stories on the site after it was revealed first on insurancetimes.co.uk.

The news soon spread and was picked up by a host of other sites, but in a matter of weeks we have yet another contender for most popular online story of the year. The next development in this story should make for interesting reading too.

Job cuts entered the top five once again, this time falling within Aviva’s sales and marketing division – which received a hefty number of clicks – but pushing it close was another acquisition on the cards, involving Lloyd’s insurer Amlin, which announced a takeover deal for specialist underwriter Crowe Livestock Underwriting.

Our online analysis ‘A warning to motor insurers’ also struck a chord with online readers, as did a story of more poaching in the aviation market, this time led by Aon.

Elsewhere, severe flooding in the north of England brought the insurance industry into focus on news sites across the web, including the BBC, which carried the story ‘Floods claims in Cumbria and Scotland could top £100m’.

Don’t forget to catch the December issue of Insurance Agenda, available online, and to read the latest ‘Five things you didn’t know about…’.
