Lesley Harding to become chief executive of the Willis Global Captive Practice in Europe

Guernsey continues to be Europe’s leading destination for captives

Willis is eyeing opportunities with captives following the appointment as Lesley Harding as chief executive of the Willis Global Captive Practice in Europe.

She will report into Malcolm Cutts-Watson, chairman of the Willis Global Captive Practice – Europe. Harding starts today and will lead the European captive management and advisory team.

Harding’s background is that she started off as an underwriter for Swiss Re and helped set up Arch’s European operations. She then became a risk manager at a subsidiary for oil giant Texaco.

She joined Willis in 2003. Her most recent role was as a client advocate with Willis Global Solutions where she focused on developing and managing relationships with a number of Willis’ global clients – particularly in the energy industry.

Cutts-Watson said: “We see great potential in Europe for the growth of captives. This is because organisations are seeking to reduce their dependence on the commercial insurance market and increasingly looking at alternative means of funding risks. A captive provides a structured approach to the management of retained risk, generating financial savings and operational benefits.”
