Brit Insurance Holdings is an insurance holding company that writes both direct and reinsurance business through Lloyd's and its FSA regulated company, Brit Insurance.

Brit was launched as a new investment trust in November 1995. In 1999

Brit completed the acquisitions of Wren and Benfield Re, forming Brit Insurance.

Primarily based in London, Brit has offices in Bristol, Darlington, Glasgow, Ilford, Manchester and Leeds.

Neil Eckert became a reinsurance broker in 1980, joining Benfield Lovick & Rees & Co in 1986. In 1991, he joined the main board of Benfield Group from which he resigned on 14 January 2000.

He has been a director of Brit since its flotation in 1995 and was appointed as chief executive in 1999.

He is chairman (non-executive) of Design Technology and Innovations, a patenting and intellectual property company.
