Universal Salvage has issued a guide to categorisation of vehicles, in a bid to set an industry standard.

The guide provides consistent answers to engineers and independent motor assessors and is modelled on the ABI Code of Practice.

In the guide, vehicles are assessed with reference to percentages of the cost of repair in relation to the 'pre accident value' (PAV).

The categories range from vehicles with no commercially saleable parts (category A) to vehicles that can safely be repaired within their PAV (category D).

Universal Salvage has also set up a dedicated service desk, the Central appraisal Technical Services (CATS) Unit, to deal with enquiries swiftly and professionally.
