Claims Direct's Lloyds underwriters have appointed Abbey Legal Protection to manage the insurer's run-off account.

Abbey director of ATE business David Hartley said: "We are delighted to have won this account, which reinforces our position as the leading player within the ATE sector."

Abbey will act as representatives of the underwriters with effect from 1 April.

Additionally Abbey will handle all claims in place of Litigation Protection Ltd.

All Administration procedures will remain in place with requests for authorisation and notifications to case status being made as usual to Claims Direct. But Abbey will be looking to streamline procedures throughout the run-off period.

Abbey said its first change will be a move in April to streamline payment procedures.

Abbey will run an electronic BACS processing facility paying monies directly into the solicitors nominated account rather than keep the existing cheque payment facility.

This should produce greater efficiency and get the funds to the solicitors and clients quickly.
