Move one of three senior appointments

AIG has named Alexander Baugh has been named managing director of its UK business. He replaces Daniel Glaser, who was appointed as Marsh's new global chief yesterday.

Baugh was formerly president of AIG Europe, SA, and president of American International Underwriters (AUI) continental European region, AIG's international property-casualty insurance organization. He will be responsible for the general insurance operations of AUI in the UK and Ireland.

In a related development, AIG senior vice president Julio A Portalatin will succeed Mr Baugh as president of AIG Europe, SA, and president of AIU's continental European region. He will be replaced by Jose A Hernandez, currently chief operating officer of AIU's accident & health division.

Nicholas Walsh, executive vice president, Foreign General Insurance and president, American International Underwriters, said: "All three bring demonstrated leadership skills developed under AIG's matrixed management structure."

Martin J. Sullivan, AIG president and chief executive officer, added: "Our ability to draw upon such talented executives within our ranks demonstrates the depth and breadth of AIG's accomplished management team."

Baugh joined AIU in 1983 as a financial lines underwriter, and has held posts with AIU in New York, London and Paris.
