AIG Europe said travel agents might be missing out on the sale of travel insurance because their outdated approach leads to low conversion rates.

It said a traditional link from a travel website of a call centre agent typically gives a conversion rate of around 0.5%.

AIG said it had developed an online system which gives instant personalised quotes at the point of sale. It claimed that the conversion rate for travel providers could increase to up to 15% due to the new system.

For call centre operations, AIG said the new system could improve conversion rates to more than 30%.

AIG Europe’s travel systems manager Peter Kitt, said: “Many travel providers are losing out on their rightful share in the £600 million market. AIG Europe aims to simplify the sales process and deliver an enhanced customer experience.

“We are looking to develop long term, supportive relationship partnerships with our partners and help them exceed their profit expectations.
