Intermediary Berkeley Alexander has built a web site aimed at students featuring on-line leisure, culture, shopping information and insurance quotations.

The specialist broker created the site after typing in the word ‘insurance' on an internet search engine – and being offered a massive 2.5m web sites.

“On-line applications are far better than the insurance industry is reporting as a whole,” said Berkeley Alexander managing director Edward York.

Independent Insurance is supporting the initiative financially. “They have been helping us a great deal and backing the web site,” said York.

Berkeley Alexander is looking for an insurer partner to provide on-line motor quotes for students. Previously insurers have been reluctant to support student motorists, York says.

Since the launch, Berkeley Alexander has helped non-competitive intermediaries wishing to set up web sites.
