Allianz Cornhill Engineering has added workplace electronic equipment cover to its insurance portfolio.

The policy offers comprehensive cover on a wide range of electronic office equipment from telephones and other telecommunications equipment to computers and audio visual goods.

The policy protects against equipment breaking down and in the case of lost or damaged items there is a "resinstatement as new" option.

Cover can be extended to loss or damage to owned property as well as liability for loss or damage to equipment hired by the insured firm.

Business interruption cover can also be purchased to run under a single policy document.

Stefan Bramwell, senior underwriter at Allianz Cornhill Engineering, said the policy offers valuable peace of mind to firms fearing crippling losses from the failure or theft of essential electronic equipment.

He added: "In an age where electronic equipment is the backbone to business operations this peace of mind cannot be underestimated."
