Lloyd's insurer Amlin has created a UK retail insurance division through the merger of its motor syndicate, Summit at Lloyd's, and its employer's liability syndicate, Drysdales at Lloyd's.

The new division - to be known as Amlin Insurance - has launched a commercial combined package for UK businesses, providing a range of covers, including property, motor, employer's and public liability insurance.

Policies and claims at the division which will start underwriting this month will be handled by Amlin through its administration office at Chelmsford, Essex.

The account will be underwritten by Brian Carpenter. Tim Wilmshurst will help with employer's and public liability, Amanda Doran with property and Steve Williams with motor.

Carpenter said: "This is a very exciting opportunity for both us and our clients, in being able to offer companies a complete one-stop insurance solution for their commercial insurance needs."

Summit and Drysdales will continue to operate under their respective names for motor, liability and professional indemnity insurance.

The main Amlin business was established in 1998 following the merger of Angerstein Underwriting Trust and the Murray Lawrence Group.

The move created one of the largest Lloyd's insurance groups.
