Mike Biggs is currently chairman of takeover specialist Resolution

Direct Line Group

RBS has offered the role of chairman at Direct Line Group to Aviva’s former finance director Mike Biggs, according to reports.

It is understood that Biggs has not yet formally accepted the job but he will be tempted by the chance to lead a firm that is set to enter the FTSE 100 when it floats later this year or early next, reports City AM.

A spokesman for RBS declined to comment or provide a timeframe for when the new chairman will be named.

Speculation has been rife about who will chair Direct Line. Former RSA chief executive Andy Haste and former Aviva UK chief executive Patrick Snowball have both been tipped for the job.

RBS has until the end of 2013 to sell or float the business, after being ordered by European regulators to sell off its insurance division following government financial intervention during the 2008 financial crisis.

The insurance unit was recently renamed Direct Line Group ahead of the sale.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
