Beazley has announced the appointment of...

Beazley has named Clive Washbourn as an executive director with effect from 4 December 2006.

Washbourn, who joined Beazley in 1998 to head up its marine team, has over 24 years of experience in the marine insurance industry, is a member of the Lloyd's Market Association marine committee, and recently succeeded Rupert Atkin as chairman of the joint war committee.

Washbourn's appointment adds to the significant strengthening of the board over the past 12 months, with three non-executive director appointments, including Dan Jones, Marty Becker and Gordon Hamilton. However, this is the first executive board appointment since Beazley's IPO in 2002.

Andrew Beazley, chief executive of Beazley, said:
“Clive's leadership and expertise over the past eight years have proved invaluable to the ongoing success and growth of the business and I am sure he will make a big contribution at board level.

"His appointment underlines our philosophy of having strong underwriting experience at board level.”
