Trading director to retire at the end of the year

Aviva’s director of trading for the north and Scotland, George Berrie, is to retire at the end of this year after 32 years with the insurer.

Janice Deakin, the insurer’s corporate sales director, said: “Since I joined the broker business George has been a rock, his experience and knowledge of the business immense and his personal support to me unfailing. I will miss him, the team will miss him and so will the brokers.”

Berrie said: “After 32 years I feel it is time to do something new, something different. Aviva is a fantastic company – what it stands for and its leadership strength make it a great company for all of its stakeholders. It will be painful leaving.

“There would be no point in leaving the company I love to then stay in the same industry with another company. So that isn’t an option for me. The scary part is that I have no idea what I will do next year – it’s scary because there will be a huge people gap in my life which is going to be very hard to fill.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
