Galbraith calls on brokers to lend support

The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) is set to launch a major lobbying campaign to promote the role of the broker to the new Government.

In his opening comments at BIBA's 2010 Conference, Eric Galbraith, BIBA's chief eGxecutive, called on all brokers to lend their support to this important initiative and for the Government to introduce the right regulation and the right supervision at the right cost.

Focusing initially on regulation and signposting, BIBA will be taking its campaign directly to the new Government. Given the potential changes to financial services regulation and with economic renewal at the heart of the political agenda, BIBA will be working to profile the value of broker advice.

Ahead of the conference, Galbraith said: "We are going through the biggest change in UK politics in decades and it's important that we have a strong voice to represent brokers. Over recent years, BIBA has played an increasingly important role in representing brokers' interests to legislators and regulators. With a new Government in place, it is crucial that we strengthen our representations, particularly during this period of political and potentially regulatory change."

BIBA confirmed that thanks to work over recent months, it has already established contact with a number of new MPs. Galbraith concluded: "The BIBA team has been working hard over the past couple of years to build relations with the Government, Shadow Government Teams, senior officials, civil servants and prospective parliamentary candidates and I'm confident that we have done all that we could have to best represent the broking sector going forward to the new government."
