I congratulate you on drawing attention to the importance of broker "uncertainty" (News Analysis, 15 September) for two reasons.

First, it is the key element for the way forward in a rapidly changing world because of the introduction of global capital.

Second, because of KUCI (knowledge, understanding, communication and intent), the one thing in life, namely the unpredictability of the human element, which never changes.

Hence the need to go back to basics and learn from past mistakes.

To explain, the insurance broker is the agent of the insured with the duty to put the insured's interest before all other considerations without being unfair to the insurer (IBRC definition).

He is, therefore, "piggy in the middle". This is an essential component in insurance which is founded on utmost good faith.
