BUPA has secured a major contract to provide medical insurance to employees and families of Unilever plc.

Unilever, which is behind well-known brand names including Persil, Dove, Flora and Knorr, has more than 8,000 people who will be covered by BUPA cover tailored to its exact requirements.

This includes BUPA International medical insurance for employees who are based abroad.

Unilever says that BUPA was required to demonstrate quality of service, clinical expertise and purchasing power with hospitals and other health service providers.

BUPA spokeswoman Victoria Williams commented: "Unilever was looking for more than just an insurer - it wanted a total healthcare provider. As this is such a significant account for BUPA there will be two national account managers looking after Unilever to ensure smooth implementation and continuity of service."
