Chaucer will report a strong start to the year at its annual meeting today.

Premium income written, net of brokerage, to the end of April 2005 was reported as £201m, or 54% of the combined planned income for Syndicates 1084 and 1176 for the year.

Written premiums have increased by 7.8% compared to the same stage of 2004, it said.

The Group forecasted a marginal reduction in overall premium rates for 2005.

The average renewal rate achieved by Syndicate 1084 for the first four months of 2005 has reduced by 1%, it said.
