The Chartered Insurance Institute said yesterday that it endorsed the Financial Services Authority's examinations review and was already well on the way to providing the modular exams and retraining highlighted in the report.

It added that it was looking forward to continuing to work with the FSA and would submit a detailed response to the consultation document.

CII director general and SOFA managing director Sandy Scott said: "Modular exams are an area that the CII is already focused on. To coincide with N2 we launched our new Financial Administration Foundation Certificate on 30 November."

The certificate offers a basic grounding in the function and regulation of the financial services market together with specialist knowledge of either life or pensions administration.

"Maintaining competence and re-testing are major elements of the review. These will be ideally suited to the CII's new e-learning portal to be launched in January. One of the many features of the portal will be a compliance zone to enable advisers to keep up to date and track their learning progress," Scott said.
