The CII has launched an investigation into the impact climate change will have on the insurance sector.

Compiled by an expert group, the study will assess the strategic issues for insurers arising from climatic change.

It will be led by Dr Andrew Dlugolecki who chaired the CII's previous climate change research groups.

The study will look at insurance companies' environmental policies, asset management, aspects of global risks, climate policy and developments since 2001.

Fiona Andrews, CII market planning manager and project manager said: "This will be a significant piece of research which will explore issues which are uncertain, or scenarios which may develop in coming decades, and lay out the alternatives and implications, not merely reflect the current market place or regulatory status."

The report is expected to be published in August.
