Lukas Mühlemann has succumbed to investor pressure and split his role as chairman and chief executive of Credit Suisse. He will step down as chairman and continue as chief executive.
The move is likely to be an attempt to restore confidence in the group after its falling profitability and share price brought its leadership into question.
The group has begun the search for a new chairman.
