McCauley joins as chief underwriting officer later this year

Tesco Underwriting has appointed Darren McCauley as chief underwriting officer, it announced today.

McCauley brings with him over 17 years of industry experience and will take up his new position later this year. He joins from Zurich Insurance, where he is currently director of personal lines, pricing and underwriting.

McCauley previously held a variety of positions in the general insurance market, including associate director for pricing at BGL Group and motor business manager at Churchill Insurance.

He will be responsible for leading the business’s underwriting, pricing and anti-fraud strategies for the motor and home insurance provider. He will also join the Tesco Underwriting board.

Tesco Underwriting chief executive Geoff Carter said: “Darren’s technical skills, experience and knowledge of the industry will add considerable value to the strategic direction of Tesco Underwriting as we continue to build on our Underwriting and Pricing capabilities. Darren is a very strong addition to the team and we are looking forward to him joining us.”

McCauley added: “Since the launch of Tesco Underwriting a couple of years ago, the business has continued to go from strength to strength against what have been very challenging market conditions. I‘m delighted to have the opportunity to help take the business to the next level and look forward to working with the management team to achieve this.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
